Phytochemical Investigation and Biological Screening of Ethyl Acetate Fraction of Salvia hispanica L. Aerial Parts

Introduction: Salvia hispanica L. is an annual herbaceous plant commonly known as "Chia", native of southern Mexico and northern Guatemala. The aim this study isolation, identification secondary metabolites evaluation biological activities ethyl acetate fraction aerial parts. Methods: Air dried powdered parts was extracted by maceration fractionated using light petroleum, dichloromethane solvents. Ethyl subjected to column thin layer chromatography for isolation that are characterized UV-Vis, FT-IR, EI-MS, 1D 2D NMR spectral analyses. UPLC-ESI-MS/MS technique used on the same fraction. In-vitro carried out anti-oxidant activity DPPH assay, anti-obesityactivity pancreatic lipase inhibitory assay,anti-diabetic usingα -amylase inhibition assay andanti-cancer usingcell viability assay. Results: Six compounds were isolated including 1,2,4,5 tetrahydroxy benzene (1), leucantho flavone (2), rhamnetin (3), apigenin-7-O-β- D-glucoside(4), rosmarinic acid (5) kaempferol-7-O-β-D-glucoside (6). thirty seven byUPLC-ESI-MS/MS analysis. A strong scavenging with IC50 13.11compared ascorbic acid, anti-obesity 59.3 compared orlistate, anti-diabetic 95.2 acarbose. High cytotoxic against lung carcinoma, colon carcinoma moderately prostate cell lines. Conclusions: a antioxidant anti-carcinogenic cancer.
